Considerations for Very Large Studies
For larger Studies (those with 5000 or more Subjects) there are additional considerations to manage performance and reduce the number of jobs required.
Critical
CDB: CQL
Ensure that you’re using optimized CQL. Consult with your Veeva representative for assistance with optimizing your CQL. Inefficient CQL statements may evoke exponentially higher processing times in TST (TEST) and PRD environments.
EDC vs CDB Core Listings
If you want Core Listings, use those available in CDB if you have the CDB application. If you require EDC Core Listings, contact Veeva for guidance.
Job Management
Monitor the scheduling, prioritization, and business use of jobs to ensure that you only run necessary jobs. Avoid over-scheduling jobs.
Important
Amendments
We recommend that you run amendments for by Site or by groups of Sites, instead of running an amendment in all Sites at once.
Running Rules in Batch
When running rules in a batch, only run required rules, instead of all rules.
EDC Study Data Extracts (SDE)
Extracting a Study Data Extract (SDE) with SAS conversion may take many hours. Stay aware of job duration and avoid overlapping SDE jobs.
Other Notable Considerations
CDB Ingestions & Scheduled Exports
Ensure that there is enough of a processing time buffer between data ingestion and CDB exports.
Closeout PDFs
Run closeout PDFs for individual sites or groups of sites when data collection is complete, instead of waiting until the end and running it for all sites at once.
Audit Trail Exports
Generating an Audit Trail Export for the full study will take time. Unless you require the full study, consider limiting your export to certain Sites, Subjects, or to a date range.
Incremental EDC Snapshots
Perform incremental snapshots instead of locking or freezing all data at once. This decreases the amount of time spent performing the snapshot.
Form Progress Listing
Form Progress Listing jobs with Item Counts and Send to Reporting Object selected take hours longer to run. Only include these options if necessary.
Unique Terms Report
Limiting the Unique Terms Report job by Study and/or Dictionary helps this job run using the same queues.
